We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with the focus on PHP to join the dynamic product team - a campervan hire and camping expert in Europe with over 70 stations across Europe and North America.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems using PHP 8.x with Symfony or Laravel
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications
• Collaborate with frontend teams to ensure seamless integration and great user experiences
• Work with MongoDB, Redis, and Docker to ensure performance and reliability
• Analyze functional requirements, design solutions, and contribute to technical discussions
• Participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and follow best practices for clean, maintainable code
• Support integration with third-party APIs and services (AWS, Adyen, Google, etc.)
• Work closely with DevOps teams on deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization

• Experience in software development, with an emphasis on web applications and backend technologies using PHP (Symfony or Laravel preferred)
• Strong understanding of software engineering practices throughout the full development life cycle: coding standards, code reviews, source control, testing, build processes, and monitoring.
• Proficiency with version control tools (Git preferred) and collaborative workflows.
• Good knowledge of web frameworks, RESTful APIs, and database design (MongoDB or SQL).
• Hands-on experience or familiarity with unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Awareness of system performance, security, and scalability principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.
• 2 years of experience in leading engineering teams (for technical lead level).
• Working proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with international teams and clients.

• Experience in one or more of these domains: eCommerce, travel booking, or SaaS platforms.
• Proficiency in database design and strong SQL or MongoDB skills.
• Hands-on experience with REST API development and integration with third-party services.
• Familiarity with real-time communication tools (e.g. Pusher, PubNub, Firebase).
• Understanding of application performance optimization and scalable system design.
• Exposure to modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
