About Sampl

Our mission is to help brands ensure that every sample reaches someone with a genuine desire for the product, to accurately target campaigns that deliver tangible results.

We help leading brands from Cadbury to Clarins to Estee Lauder engage their audiences through social and online media to create highly targeted product sampling campaigns in Europe, the US and APAC.

Our end-to-end product sampling solutions drive loyalty and engagement whilst helping brands acquire rich first party data and product reviews. This is a hybrid role with the expectation to meet in our lovely Brighton office once a week.

Job Description

Reporting into the Head of Engineering, as an Engineer, you will be a significant contributor to our web applications and infrastructure. You’ll arrive with solid experience writing modern, object-oriented PHP within Laravel, have strong knowledge of SQL (MariaDB / MySQL), and be adept at using AI to both generate code suggestions and implement solutions.

Our engineering team is genuinely hybrid, assembling in person when convenient in our quintessential Brighton office. We use Slack and Google Meet to keep in touch and work closely and collaboratively.

Technology-wise, Sampl is written in PHP 8.4, Laravel 11 & MariaDB 11.4. Git is our version control system, we track our development and bugs in Jira, and we document in Confluence. Our staging and production platforms are 100% Amazon AWS, from Route53 through S3, EC2 via ElasticBeanstalk, and of course RDS. We use Google Workspace as our productivity suite and Google Gemini as our AI solution.

What we do

  • Implement brand-new features and products that help our clients derive the maximum consumer love and feedback from every sample delivered, using modern and exciting technology wherever we can.
  • Deliver continuous improvements across our platform. Our platform began five years ago and it gets better every day. We release daily and react quickly.
  • Problem solving: we solve big problems for household brands and that means we need big ideas from our team.
  • Bugs: we fix bugs first to ensure a stable codebase before adding new features.
  • Develop API integrations with third-party providers such as Meta and Tik Tok to super-charge our platform and give our clients a single source of truth full of rich first party data.

Requirements

  • Best practice: You have previous experience in software development, best practices, and MVC frameworks. You write clean, maintainable and efficient code while adhering to coding standards and best practices.
  • Tech stack: You are a PHP and SQL expert, with excellent understanding of the Laravel framework. You have experience with version control, and with unit tests.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies, and comfortable with code review.
  • Experience using AI to augment your workflow while maintaining privacy, quality and control.
  • Teamwork: you need to know your tech and be able to work independently at times, but we are all about people and working together.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing API integrations with third party software.
  • Experience using AWS.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence and Gitlab.
  • Experience with Linux environments.
  • Marketing knowledge.

Benefits

  • Hybrid working set-up.
  • Auto-enrolment in the company-wide benefits scheme.
  • EMI share options - be part of our growth journey.
  • Health Cash Plan, Private Medical Insurance, Employee Assistance Programme & comprehensive well-being support package.
  • Generous holiday entitlement, including two weeks off at the end of the year.
  • Regular work social events including team lunches, Spa days, Go Karting, mini golf etc.
  • A bright, modern office within a co-working space in the heart of Brighton, which includes access to other co-working spaces in Bath, Bristol, Birmingham and London.

Interview Process

  • Telephone call with our Head of Talent.
  • In-person interview with our Head of Engineering, our CTO, and another member of the engineering team.
  • A technical test - nothing too savage!
  • Final interview with other members of the team.
  • Offer!

Final Requirements

You must have the right to work in the UK - we cannot provide sponsorship under any circumstances. And you need to be able to attend our Brighton office from time to time. We can be flexible about that for the right candidate, but we are looking to get the team together regularly, and we believe you’ll love the office and Brighton city. Sampl encourages applications from candidates from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
